Description

Colombia La  Casiana

Colombia La Casiana is located at 1800 meters above sea level on the western range of the Andes in the municipality of Jardín, Antioquia, and has been home to three generations dedicated to harvesting the best Colombian coffees. Renowned for their soft, washed coffees they produce Castillo, Colombia and Cenicafé 1 varieties.

Their coffee is known for its medium, brilliant acidity; round, balanced body; aromas and fragrances take the form of dark chocolate, caramel and molasses; aftertaste is sweet and floral.

Three generations of coffee growers, all convinced that they must hand over a land better than that which they received. That’s where their commitment to sustainability resides. For over more than ten years, La Casiana has been part of a group of farms that comply with the Rainforest Alliance standards.

La Casiana, are able to bring to market some 10,000 kgs of green coffee per year and although they harvest year-round, the main harvest takes place mostly around October, November

La Casiana is a Rainforest Alliance certified farm, covering a variation in canopy height and diversity in flora.

N.B. Colombians are hugely in to cycling, Antioquia had the concept of closing roads in the city on a Sunday to allow cyclists free run of the roads and Ciudad Bolivar. The municipality that is home to La Casiana is well known for its association with professional international cyclists Carlos Betancur and Julián Arredondo. In an area that was historically rocked by violence, inequality and a culture of corruption, new life in the form of a renewed coffee industry and investment in the next generation of producers is welcome progress.
